As a co-founder of the State of Nature Band, Sam has always had the wisdom to focus his creative talent on staying true to the music of the band as a song writer, vocalist, and musician.
A gifted natural musician, Sam has been writing and performing music since his childhood, when he used to secretly borrow his older brother Malachi's guitar. While his instrument of choice has always been the guitar, he became the band's bassist as a matter of necessity.
At a time when the band needed a bass player, and after some encouragement by his cousin Dave, Sam realized that rather than look outside the band for another musician, he could and should put down his guitar and play bass. He was hesitant because of his limited experience with the instrument, but Dave had faith in Sam's natural talent, his ability to change, and his commitment to the music. Listen to their songs, and you will certainly agree that it was the right move.
As the band's bass player, Sam keeps the rhythm tight, adding to the cohesiveness that is a characteristic of their music. He also plays in a more lyrical manner which complements the lead guitar and gives a fuller dimension to the overall sound, and with his voice harmonizing with his cousin Dave, the unique, synergistic sound that is State of Nature is complete.
